Prior to joining Aegis Capital Group, Mr. Crist founded Crist Ventures, an early-stage fund focused on technology, software, e-commerce, and communications where he was a Managing Partner. Crist Ventures is ranked in the top quartile by performance of all early-stage funds. Mr. Crist is Chairman of portfolio companies Bynari and BizSupplies and the former Chairman of SalvageSale. He was also a former Managing Director of Garage Ventures, a leading technology VC investment bank focused on early-stage companies. At Garage, he is principally responsible for sourcing, managing, and underwriting deal flow for the Southwestern region of the US.
Mr. Crist was the former President and CEO of Telscape International), one of the world's fastest growing, fully-integrated communications companies (focused on the emerging markets of Latin America and Central/Eastern Europe). In four years, he turned around Telscape from a net loss of $1 million to a profit of over $6 million and annual revenues of over $130 million.
Mr. Crist was also the former President and CEO of Matrix Telecom and the former CEO and founder of DNS Communications. Matrix was ranked #7 on Inc. Magazine's list of the 500 fastest growing, US-based private companies in the United States (and 1st in Texas). During his tenure at Matrix, equity investors realized a return of 20 times on their investment. In 1995, Crist structured and negotiated the sale of DNS Communications, a long distance telecommunications company, to Matrix Telecom. During the three years after founding DNS, Mr. Crist grew the company to over $20 million in revenue, through internal growth and without any significant capital injection.
Prior to founding DNS, Scott was a Vice President of Acquisitions at Trammell Crow Group and worked at both Booz-Allen & Hamilton and IBM Corporation.
Mr. Crist graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was awarded his M.B.A. from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. Kellogg named him one of four Levy Entrepreneurial Scholars. Mr. Crist was named the 1999 Entrepreneur of the Years by CNN / NASDAQ / Ernst & Young for Texas and is an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital at Rice University's School of Management. He is on the Alumni Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and holds both the NASD Series 7 and 63 designations.
