Aegis' 2nd Annual VC Pitch Day at Columbia University – May 9
Aegis Capital Group and Columbia University are hosting an event for entrepreneurs with established businesses located in New York and New Jersey who are seeking $500,000 to $5,000,000 in financing. The event will comprise approximately 15 carefully selected businesses and approximately 40 interested investor groups. This event has been fully sponsored and is NO COST to entrepreneurs or potential investors.
Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Columbia University at the Alfred Lerner Hall building in room 555 located at Broadway and West 115th Street (Upper West Side of Manhattan). Walk East from Broadway on 115th Street to enter the building.

1. Headquartered in New York or New Jersey
2. Industries: Focus on high growth Technology, Business Services, Biotechnology and Software companies.
3. Size of companies: Annual revenues of $2 to $25 million (must be cash flow positive or projected to be cash flow positive within 12 months).
4. Funding sought: Between $500,000 and $5,000,000 in all capital structures (i.e., debt, equity or hybrids).
Robert D. Long – Managing Director, Allied Capital
Mr. Long leads Allied Capital’s origination efforts. He also serves on the Investment Committee and the Management Committee. Prior to joining Allied Capital, Mr. Long was Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking at C.E. Unterberg from 2001 to 2002, and Managing Director at E*OFFERING/Wit SoundView from 2000 to 2001. He also held management positions at Bank of America (Montgomery Securities) from 1996 to 2000, and Nomura Securities International from 1992 to 1996, and prior to that he served as a Managing Director at CS First Boston. Mr. Long earned his B.A. from McGill University.
Stuart J. Ellman – Managing Partner, RRE Ventures
Since co-founding RRE in late 1994, Mr. Ellman has been responsible for over twenty-five technology investments including a number which started at the business plan stage.
Mr. Ellman is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia Business School where he has been since 2002, teaching the Venture Capital Seminar to MBA students. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Y, the Makor/Steinhardt Center, the Venture Investors Association of NY, and is a member of the Economic Club of New York. Mr. Ellman holds an MBA with Distinction from Harvard University and a BA in Economics from Wesleyan University where he was a Gilbert Clee Scholar and a Horace White Fellow.
Dr. Safi R. Bahcall Ph.D., – President & CEO, Synta Pharmaceuticals
Dr. Bahcall co-founded Synta and took it public in February 2007. Prior to founding Synta, Dr. Bahcall was a consultant at McKinsey & Company serving investment banks and pharmaceutical companies on key issues of strategy, technology, and operations. Dr. Bahcall also founded a drug discovery company focused on novel ion channel research, now part of Synta. He received his B.A. summa cum laude from Harvard University, was awarded his Ph.D. from Stanford University in theoretical physics, and was a Miller postdoctoral fellow at U.C. Berkeley.
